In 2018, he starred in Lena Dunham's HBO limited series CAMPING opposite Jennifer Garner and Juliette Lewis. His other television credits include CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM, THE GOOD FIGHT, STRANGER THINGS and two seasons as the formidable Irish ambulance driver ‘Tom Cleary’ in Steven Soderbergh’s THE KNICK.
Sullivan’s best known film role was ‘Taserface’ in Marvel’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2. His other film credits include LIVE BY NIGHT, MORGAN, THE DROP, and IMPERIUM.
Theatrically, Sullivan has appeared on Broadway in NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT (Outer Critics Circle Award Nomination), CHICAGO, and LOMBARDI. He also originated the role of ‘Hermes’ in Rachel Chavkin/Anais Mitchell’s folk opera HADESTOWN for which he was nominated for the 2017 Lucille Lortel Award in the category of Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical.
Before moving to New York, Sullivan spent 4 years touring the one-man show, DEFENDING THE CAVEMAN. That tour landed him in Chicago (the city) where he appeared in THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP (Jefferson Award Nomination) and Tony Kushner’s THE ILLUSION, as well as productions at The Goodman, Chicago Shakespeare, The Royal George and The Court Theater.
When not acting, Sullivan writes music and performs under the moniker, Joseph and the Spouse.
